Productivity Measurement
5 February 2008

Central government departments, government research agencies, regulators, industry associations and individual businesses often want to have a reliable assessment made of the productivity performance of the economy, a particular sector or industry, or an individual firm.

We use strong analytical frameworks and draw on our network of international experts to deliver robust answers to the following types of questions:

  • How has national productivity growth compared with that of other countries?
  • Have microeconomic reforms and other policy changes led to an acceleration in national productivity performance?
  • Is the reporting of international agencies such as the OECD and IMF accurately representing national performance?
  • How does the productivity performance of a particular sector or industry compare with national productivity performance?
  • What impediments are holding back productivity performance and what can government do to overcome them?
  • How should the outputs of service sector industries be measured?
  • Has the adoption of information and communications technology led to an acceleration in productivity growth?
  • Are proposed X factors in CPI X regulation sensible given past and expected feasible productivity gains for the industry?
  • What has been a particular business' recent productivity performance?

We use leading edge quantitative modelling to answer these and related questions.

Techniques used include index number analysis, econometric models, and non parametric methods.
